Apple TV streaming music
Does anyone know of a way to stream music from an iOS device to the Apple TV with the television off?
I want to hook up speakers to the Apple TV and stream music while my television is off. I've read this only works if you have your television on. Anyone had experience with this? It would save me from having to buy an airport express. Thanks in advance. |

Use optical out and connect ATV directly to speakers, then you can simply use AirPlay to stream music.

From everything I've read, that doesn't work when the television is off.

If you're using optical out directly to a stereo, TV is out of the equation.
It's a very straight forward connection. If you connect ATV to TV, TV becomes your output for both video and audio. If you connect ATV to a stereo using optical cable, stereo becomes the output for audio. Not sure how else to explain it except that TV is simply an output device and you're using another output device to play music when you utilize optical out. |

That makes sense to me, and that's what I assumed would happen.
I've just read differently from posts like below: https://discussions.apple.com/thread...art=0&tstart=0 |

It reads like some sort of setup issue with end users.
It works perfectly fine for me. |
