Hey im using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI to transmit the video from my iMac to the reciever. However, since the iMac is from before 2010, the hdmi output does not support audio. Therefore, i need to use a cable ( http://www.zzounds.com/item--MONIP400M ) to transmit the audio to the reciever ( http://usa.denon.com/us/product/pag...id=avreceivers(denonna)&pid=avr2313ci(denonna) ).

...So to my question...does the sound lose quality using the cable? Is it any different than sound transmitted through an hdmi cable?

With that cable, yes. That is an analog stereo audio cable. Theoretically, your iMac can output up to 5.1 surround sound through the same jack (but using a different, digital optical cable).

Here is a link to the correct type of cable: http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10229&cs_id=1022902&p_id=1557&seq=1&format=2

That cable is 6 feet long. They come in many sizes, larger and smaller.

Your receiver link didn't work for me, btw.

P.S. Don't buy Monster cables. That would be like buying horse peepee because someone told you it was liquid gold. They are way overpriced, and (especially with digital signals, that are either working or not) they make little to no difference in quality.
