I don't need to, but I want to for the following reason alone:

Imagine going from Spaces in Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, looking like this
to Mission Control in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, looking like this
Of course, not everyone uses that many Spaces, but Mission Control seriously hampers the usefulness of more than four virtual desktops.

True, my first real Mac came with Lion installed, however I went through the pain and anguish of getting Leopard and Snow Leopard installed onto my Hackintosh.

Obviously that experience doesn't qualify me to ask questions as to why people are holding back? I've asked this question three or four times now and all I seem to get in response is the same as asking a vet about the Vietnam war... "You don't know man, you weren't there!".

Please just answer my simple question - why do you need to stick with Snow Leopard?
The answer is why not?

Some OS X apps (not just Rosetta) don't work in Lion and ML.

With safe browsing, there is no reason why SL needs some of the security updates that Lion and ML have had.

Fully agree with your reasons for sticking with SL my friend.

I for one have just moved on for the very reasons you mention; I managed to condense my workflow into 4 desktops. Also, with a few 3rd-party tools/hacks I've been able to neuter most of the Mountain Lion annoyances. (BetterTouchTool, Bartender, etc)

But every time I perform a "shut down" under ML I do get the nostalgic urge to go back so I'm not completely cured.

I already reduced my Spaces use from 16 to 12 to now 9 Spaces, but I cannot find a way to get even lower ( 4 Spaces is not enough and I like them squared nowadays except those 12 Spaces days).
I tried Total Expose when I tried OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion again, but it is a really poor substitute. And OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion only lived for 12 hours that day until I returned to Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, but since I need a new computer anyways, and Refurbished once from 2011 get rarer than ever, I probably have to live with OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion or 10.9 at some time anyway. Man, those times suck nowadays. Every Mac OS X iteration since Mac OS X 10.3 Panther got used by me within two weeks of its release, but since Mac OS X 10.7 Lion those days are gone. It just shows, that Apple does not care about specialised uses, only those using Faceporn and Titter.

Ditto! A noble effort but just not the same.

I went back to SL 3 times since Lion. Eventually, iCloud won me over. (kicking and screaming).

You get used to it but it's still not the same.

I swapped machines with my wife just to stay on SL. But now this one will need replacement soon. Going to try and wait until a least Haswell.

I am now reinstalling SL after trying ML for about 4 months on iMac 2010. Often found beachball, and sluggish. Tried to tune the system using Yasu, reset SMC with no significant improvement.
