Every time I launch iTunes, a box pops up that says:

Sign In To Use This Computer For Automatic Downloads

Enter Account Name and Password
Enter your Apple ID and password.

I always hit cancel, because I don't want automatic downloads, and I don't think I should have to sign in to Apple just to listen to my own music.

As soon as I do, another box pops up that says:
Sign In Required

Click Continue and sign in to check for downloads.

I click cancel again, and then I'm finally free to use my computer as I wish.

Is there a way to stop these boxes from appearing?

Why would sign in be required to use iTunes to access music on my computer?

It seems like a pushy way of trying to get users to allow Apple to snoop.

I assume it does this to do a few things

1) Look for purchased content that hasn't downloaded yet (Store->Check for Available Downloads)
2) Look for updates to apps you've purchased for iOS

In order to do either of those, it must have your AppleID and password to verify you are who you say you are.

I don't think Apple is "snooping" so much as trying to a) keep you up to date, b) making sure they take care in security.

Go to:
-> Preferences
-> Store
-> Uncheck Automatic Downloads for the different sections
-> Uncheck "Always Check for Available Downloads"
-> Uncheck "Automatically download pre-orders when available"

I keep unchecking Automatic Downloads, but then if I quit iTunes and relaunch it, it asks me to sign in again, and when I go to Preferences, things are all re-checked!

Is it not possible to use iTunes without being prompted to sign in?
