So my iPod Classic came in the mail yesterday, hooked it up to my laptop and was syncing my music just fine. About halfway through, an error pops up and tells me the iPod is corrupt and that I need to restore.

I have tried to restore through iTunes: error busy/1140.
I have tried to reset the iPod manually: iPod functions but shows full HDD.
I have tried to reformat in Disk Utility: error.
I have tried to reformat in disk mode in Disk Utility: error.

Tried different USB ports and different cables... Not sure what else I can do at this point and am open to suggestions. I've looked at several threads on apple.support and other sites with no luck. :(

Using:
~ iPod Classic 160 (7th Gen)
~ MacBook Pro (10.8.2)
~ iTunes 11.0.1

Was it new or someone's used device?

You might have had a chance before you tried to reformat the drive through diskutil. You may have whacked the ipod operating system in the reformat (unless it's held separately in firmware) in which case you no longer have an iPod, you just have an external drive.

Well, not sure what I did, but I guess the 20th time's the charm? Got it restored in iTunes and synced up. Hopefully I wont run into that again. :)
