Green focus square on faces in Note 2 Gallery?

When viewing gallery photos taken with the N2 camera it places a green square over faces. What is the point of this? It looks like it the part of the screen you focus on when taking the picture, though the picture is already taken...

That would be the automatic focus in camera mode, face detection in gallery mode.

What is the point of face detection while in gallery mode? Can you do something with it?

It's the Best Face feature to replace a persons face from another pic where they might look better, smiling etc.
