MBP can't connect to Panasonic Viera TV

Hello,

I have a mid 2010 MBP and a Panasonic Viera TV. I purchased a MDP-HDMI cable and plugged it in to both ends and....nothing. No new device or settings appear in the Display tab on system preferences, and no signal reaches the TV.

Help?
