Ok to use the 12 Watt iPad charger to charge the iPhone?

It would be nice to only carry 1 charger. Will the 12 watt charger damage the phone/battery?

I have heard it is fine. I know my wife is constantly charging her iPhone 4 with my iPad adapter, and it hasn't been a problem yet.

No, it will not damage it. The device determines the amount of wattage to draw.

No, the phone wont allow it to.

Completely safe and within Apple's specs. Don't expect it to charge any faster, however, since the iPhone won't draw any more power than it would with the included 5W charger.

Agreed. My iPhone charges faster with the iPad charger as well.
