I plugged my ipod in for the new update 6.0.1 I think, then it says it failed and that my ipod is in recovery mode and must be restored! I have really important photos on it, is there anyway i can get them?

U mean you plug it in to your itune? If it need restore then restore it. You probably can recall all photoes from Itune backup in your computer anyway.

It will ask after finishing restore.

If you have a recent backup, do the restore. After it's done reinstalling iOS, it'll ask you if you'd like to restore settings from a backup. Choose the most recent backup of your iPod and all of your settings, apps, pictures, etc will be put back on the device. If you don't have a backup, restoring your iPod will cause you to lose all photos, settings, etc.
