Thanks to all of you for your viewpoints. It's very interesting to read them!
Indeed, the comparison with the MacPro is a bad one.

And that story about workers being roused from their sleep to start a 12 hr shift working with those glass panels is unlike anything we see/would accept in the western world. (...) (the foxxcon workers have probably better conditions than the average chinese worker)

Who knows, in a few years, after the Chinese workers have united themselves and managed to get themselves the same rights as American workers do, we might see a shift.

Better workers rights than us? Does your employer provide you with a free room and board?
workers will also live free within Foxconn dormitories, and they will not be required to pay for their own food.
Mine doesn't.

Thousands of people lined up for hours outside a recruitment agency in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou in the hope that they would be chosen to build iPhones at the Foxconn factory.
They want these factory conditions. The conditiosn and pay are far above living in poverty working a rice paddy out in rural china.

How do you expect that better secrets can be kept just because it is in the US?

Everybody knows Samsung manufactures the iPhone's CPU right? If Apple wants to keep it secret, the first thing they should do is to dump the archrival.

Even if iPhones were "Assembled in USA", I don't think there would be many Americans willing to produce the iPhones at the prices that consumers would purchase them. It would pull Apple completely 180 and they would be producing much less as well as earning less profit. The end product may be a same quality iPhone with a price point almost double or triple what it currently is now. You have to ask yourself, are you willing to shell out extra money for the same product?

Would be nice to see that Designed by Apple in California also say something like Made in the USA!!!

The extra labor cost would be somewhat off set w reduced shipping and handling!

Of course if you think their are leaks now ... Wait until a domestic product like an iOS device is made here.
