I have a 24" IMAC, OS Mountain Lion. Is there a way to remove autocomplete addresses in gmail that do not appear in contact list? All attempts tried so far have failed. There must be some way to remove unwanted autocomplete addresses that appear when starting to type. Very frustrating. Thanks for help.

I'm guessing you are using Mail as your Gmail client. If so, after you have accepted the autocompleted address in the address bar, place your cursor just to the right of the address, inside the "bubble." An arrow will appear, which you can click on to open a dropdown list, providing the option to permanently remove the address.

If you are using OS X Mail then in Mail go to the menu item 'Window' and in the drop-down select "Pervious Recipients". In that window remove the ones you don't want to auto-compete.
