So I am assuming the iMac has four (4) SODIMM slots correct? Can u mix, match the ram? I ordered 8GB basic setup. Could I pop a 16GB kit into the other two slots for a total of 24GB or do I have to pull the 8GB out and replace with two 16GB kits (total of 4 sticks)?

I believe there was a post on here asking that question. I am not sure though. I just played it safe and got four 8gb sticks.

Actually just this minute recieved a shipping email from Crucial for the RAM I ordered earlier. £119 in the UK for 32gb. Hoping this will make a nice difference for editing large files in Photoshop!

is there something special to Apple's RAM over others? I'm just curious as to why they are charging so much but never really bothered to ask if there is really any main big difference over others, or if the Apple ram is more of a **high-end** ram than others?

hi, so the 8gb X 4 from crucial will work on the new 27" iMac??? i cant find any confirmation online and a little hesitant here cos my country does not have a return policy.

the specs seem to comply though

They both are DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800) at 1.35V, with the same CAS 11. Seems like the same stick to me.

/Edit, if you want to stingy, order 2 of the single 8GB sticks direct from crucial and save a penny over the 2x8GB kit.

Does anyone know why the standard latency went up from CAS 9 to CAS 11 this current gen iMac? Doesn't that dramatically decrease the performance of the RAM even considering the slightly higher clock speed?

Also does anyone know the CAS latency on the stock apple ram?

is there anydifference between using 4 x 4GB over 2 x 8GB ?

I bought 32GB from Crucial but thought I'd ebay the existing 2x 4GB in the imac for someone wanting a cheap (£20) 16GB option for their 27"

Up for you: what's the CAS latency of the ram mounted by Apple?

This could be an useful information to get another pair of ram with the same CAS latency (the Crucial ones have CAS 11, the Corsair Vengeance have CAS 9).

Does the RAM have to be 1.35V like apples RAM? Or can it be 1.5V like the corsair RAM people are linking to here?

Just installed the 32gb worth of ram. Amazing to see it in the about Mac.

Really cool to have a ton of stuff open and really have no worry at all of running low on ram!

Very cool and worth the money.

Go big....or go home.

Can't wait to order my 27 and stuff in 32GB of RAM myself.
