Missing email?

I was using the osx mail app to view some of my emails in a folder earlier today but as I was doing that the mailbox refreshed and I lost 3 emails I was looking at. I checked on the icloud.com website and it did not work so I checked the status and sure enough iCloud was having problems. I checked on my phone and the emails were still there until it refreshed too. What happened to these emails? They are not in the trashed or any other folder
