Hello all,

I want to replace my current system but just can't decide with which system I should go.

1st choice
Mac Pro 3,1 (Early 2008)
2,8 GHz 8-Core (2 x Intel Xeon Quad-Core)

2nd choice
iMac 11,1 (Late 2009)
2,8 GHz Intel Core i7

The machine will be heavily used for graphics design (Adobe Suite).

My current pros for both systems:

PRO MAC PRO
- almost everything is upgradable
- ports
- 4 HD slots (great solution for mass-storage which could also be shared in the network with other devices)

PRO IMAC
- comes with a 27" display
- 'newer' system (Late 2009 vs Early 2008)

The price of both machines are about the same (of course pre-used and not new).

Excited about the advises from the community. :)

I would say....

go with the Mac Pro if expandability is paramount to you. But before to go in that route, check out throughly about the extent of multicore support for the apps you plan to use, in this case the Adobe Suite. I have the understand that core optimized in Adobe products varies greatly. Having said the latter, for future proofing, the latest hardware always works better.....

If its not out of your price range, try and get a 2010 Mac Pro refurbished from Apple. The 2008 model is getting a bit old now.
