Help! Where is my applications folder???

I accidentally grabbed my applications folder by mistake when I was trying to get rid of an alias from my dock on my imac..I did NOT want to loose my applications folder..I tried to go into the finder and drag it back to the dock, but it wont go...I dont understand and its frustrating! Thank you for the help it is greatly appreciated!
