You really don't need to optimize or keep the mac the "clean" Use it and enjoy the computer :)

With OS X there are no registry files, such as in Windows, to get trashed. When i had Windows, I ran Norton every time I installed a new program to find all the new problems the installation caused in registry files. Even a brand new Win7 installation had registry problems.

The first thing you should forget when using Mac OS X is something like registry or regedit. Of course there are config files but decentralized in different locations. Since you are new to Mac OS X don't worry right now. Explore the system first before try to "optimize" it. It pretty good the way it comes.
