I really wish I could know who decided what songs would be bundled with the first version of iTunes back in 2001. It's such a weird mix to listen to with everything from Wilco to Randy Newman and Boney James..

There were a number of preloaded songs back in the day, although these were – if memory serves – only included when you bought a Mac with iTunes on.

I had a G3 iMac which I bought around 2001, and I still have some of songs that came on it in my iTunes library. Love Shack by the B-52s is one of them, off the top of my head.

Yeah I guess it was only if you bought a new mac that came with iTunes in 2001. Really weird mix of songs, I guess to have a little of something for everyone. I don't know why I kept most of them all this time but once I stumbled upon them the other day I was glad I had. Took me back to those early iTunes days.

Here's the list of the ones I still have. I remember the B52's too but for some reason didn't keep that one so this isn't necessarily the complete list.

I just found this when I was looking for info on songs that came on an iBook I bought in 2001. I always thought maybe I had bought a store model that had songs preloaded as a demo, so it's interesting to know this was intentional. I wish I had all my MP3s from over the years, but if I saved them, well . . . they're not saved anywhere anymore. This list was helpful for going down memory lane. Some I recall, some I don't. But there definitely were more as you said.

The reason this came up was we just found some old family videos from 2001 and in the background I have my new iBook playing a song, and I've been trying to figure out which one it was. And I figured it was one of the preloaded ones. It doesn't sound like any here. But who knows, it may have been one I downloaded from Limewire which I believe is what I was using at the time.
