So after seeing the new Macbook Airs that were announced today - other than upgrading through Apple's store, who makes a solid 512/480GB that will fit the Air?
I know it's a bit premature to assume they'll allow that upgrade to be made by the user, but I'm just curious. |

Is doing something like getting the cMBP15inch and upgrading it with RAM/SSD still a good idea?

How much does it cost to upgrade? (looks to be maybe 300$ for everything?)
Also, does this void the applecare? Jon Last edited by jmcube; Jun 12, 2013 at 09:32 PM. |

Hi, Hope i'm posting this in the right place. I'm looking for some buying advice!
I have a 2011 MBP "13 and my current plans for an upgrade include a 120GB SSD for OS X and Apps, 16GB of RAM and the removal of the optical drive to accommodate a 500GB storage drive. I do a lot of music recording, Logic, and the occasional photo and video editing and I don't really know what to look for in terms of specs. I'd like to keep the budget low, so I'm looking around the £100 or less range, which would mean the OCZ Agility, SanDisk Extreme etc. Any recommendations? Thanks |

I'm looking to get a smaller (40-60 gig probably) SSD for my 15" mid 2010 MBP and go the optibay route. If I've read right the best way is to put the HDD in the optibay and put the SSD in the hard drive slot right? And while I'm in there I figure I'm gonna throw in 8GB of RAM.
So, what are my best options for both of these?

My macbook is the 13inch 2010 and I want to replace the regular hard drive with an ssd. The OP of this thread seems a little outdated, and I was hoping someone could tell me if this SSD I want will work fine with my laptop. It's the last MBP before the i5/i7s came out.
Thanks in advance. |

I'm ordering a HD Caddy from Ebay (£8.50) to slot into the Superdrive and stick my old HD in it for data and leave the System and Apps on the SSD. Go for it, you won't be disappointed, its like having a brand new lappy and the best thing is it only took me 10 minutes to do

Bought a new Crucial M4 128gb on ebay for £72, upgraded the firmware to the newest release and installed OS X and the Mac is flying, waiting on the optibay to arrive and then the RAM on pay day. So far so good!
