I don't pay a monthly fee for my credit card.
With respect to other posts that quoted me, I do understand that NFC can be used in situations other than paying, and that it might be convenient to carry just a phone and not a credit card. The problem is that NFC requires equipment on the seller's side, and this is far from universal yet. Frankly, I don't see shop owners investing in new point of sale equipment in this economy unless they absolutely have to. Also, NFC credit card payments have an upper limit - I think most people will still carry their credit card for large payments.
was a Mac+. Now I own an iPhone with 3.5x the pixels, a colour display, WiFi, 512x the RAM, >1500x the data storage, and 100x the speed. And it fits in the palm of my hand.
