Putting a video into iMovie?

I have a dvd of some home videos and I wanted to take the videos and put them on a picture slide show I made with imovie. I downloaded a ripping software but that just took the videos and made a video and audio folders which I don't want. I just want the video file.

Is there any free programs that will do that?

Handbrake will give you a video file of what is on your dvd:
