How often to sleep Mac Mini?
hey guys, i'm trying to take really good care of my Mac Mini as i'm not sure if i'll be able to access Time Machine's files from a Windows machine.
anyway, i just wanted to know what Apple recommends as far as how often i should put my Mac Mini to sleep. i'm wanting to preserve the HDD as long as i can and take really good care of the overall machine. thanks for any help! |

I know a lot of people just let it run. I turn mine off anytime I'm not using it. I don't really do it to preserve the Mini, I do it because my Time Warner internet is terrible and the fewer devices online, the easier it is for other devices to connect.
I realize I could just turn the wifi off, but it's just as easy to shut it down.

I leave my mini on all the time so that it is available to stream content to my 2 iPads and three ATV3s. It is so quiet and the fan spins at about 1700 rpm so it is quiet.

You can elect to sleep the display while allowing the internal drive to keep running if it suits your needs. That way you prolong the life of the display and reduce your power consumption. The Energy Saver system preferences pane is where you adjust the settings.
