This really is not only about porn, but humanity. Apple is limiting (if not banning) important health information becuase it involved pictures of genetaila.

I find legitimate useful information like medical and art (over 100 year old) apps have missing information, or the app passes you to browser to see online content.

Yet apps for other countries do not have the restrictions the US has.

They've always had their walled garden where they can reject things for many other reasons. I haven't looked over the guidelines in some time, but they're fairly restrictive. If they ever decided to implement a separate area for porn, they could call it the fapp store.

That's not a problem with the apps, that's a problem with the store.

Amazon have literally millions of porno e-books, but I never go on their site and feel like that makes it look like that's all there is.

It is perfectly possible to introduce better categorisation into the store. Indeed, without going into a specific category, the only place that *could* be overwhelmed is the top sales charts. But if they are that indicates that customers want it. And it can be solved with a grand total of one thing - excluding mature rated content from the sales charts unless people specifically opt in.

Problem solved.

What Apple should do is grant more APIs to web sites. They can already do stuff like use your location (which makes web sites feel more like apps). They should expand other privileges to Safari like the ability to store local files on the phone's memory.

Sites already have that, but it's unreliable, cumsy and poor. You're never going to be able to push notifications that way either, and things like animation performance are shocking compared with native graphics, and always will be. Remember, we're not just talking about video of people doing sexy things here. Apple blocks what it believes to be "adult" content. They have blocked applications dealing with geometric shapes that looked a bit like penetration. Adult social networking sites aren't allowed to use push notifications, etc etc.

Basically, there's no defending Apple's censorship. It's profoundly evil, and twenty years from now will be looked upon as if Apple banned apps discussing homosexuality.

What you're really railing against is the fact that iOS only has one store for apps. That's the problem here and it is worth complaining about.

But don't get the 2 arguments confused. In the real world you'd fight for the right for an adult store to exist in town. That's reasonable. You wouldn't fight to force Target to stock porn. That's unreasonable.

Same thing here. Perhaps there should be other stores allowed in iOS. But that's not the same as saying that Apple should sell everything on their own store.

Letting porn into the app store would open up a huge can of worms for Apple, and for what? It's not necessary.

The app store is as much a store for adults as it is for children. As technology advances, kids as young as 7 years of age are getting iPads and iPod touches. You don't want porn on the app store. Just no.

The one biggest flaw to your argument is you're stuck using Apple's store if you use an iOS device. You don't have a choice to go somewhere else.

Though the porn issue is a bit of a empty issue these days. Playboy has at least one app out already, and it's not like Apple blocks you from looking at XXX websites through Safari...

I can honestly say evey person who is on this site has looked at porn atleast once. Statisticly the average 10 year old has looked something up and I have yet to see elementary school level grammar on this site.

Trying playing laser tag, paintball, pillow fight, horsing around out in public... You will get the same amount of trouble... Also there is an entire industry built around sex in public.

Porn apps are kind of pointless since they would be really expensive, and they would probably charge atleast $14/ month for subscription.

A better idea would be an app where you can store private pix that require a password and are seperated from your camera roll.

1,000,000 non-porn apps... 50,000,000 porn apps!

This, while I am not opposed to porn itself I don't want to use apps on my iPhone or see in a list that I look at on the store. Keep it as it is, it works well enough but of course not full proof. If it was not working well enough there would be uproar from angry parents.

I don't care is there's a real, legit "no porn" rule, but they should quit with the sliding scale. Over the summer, they rendered every craigslist app almost entirely useless to me. wink wink.
