hey

I have a WD 300gb external hard drive that has been partitioned for storage and time machine backups. The storage partition mounts and seems fine according to disk utility. The TM partition won't mount or when I run first aid/ repair disk on it I get "Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed."

what do I do

You need to repair your hard disk permissions. Boot your system from OS X boot installer and then use disk utility to repair your drive. If disk utility can't fix your issue then use disk warrior, Stellar Drive Toolbox or tech tools.
