Just noticed the death has been reported of another excellent actor, the very impressive Maximilian Schell, who has died aged 83.

As an actor, Maximilian Schell had a commanding presence and an excellent range, and was one of those extraordinarily talented individuals (he was an outstandingly good pianist, as well, for example) from central Europe who made a career in the decades after the Second World War.

He was a wonderful actor with terrific range.

Ironically, or perhaps with pointed intention, after fleeing Austria after Germany's "annexation", the first film which brought him significant attention was "Judgement At Nuremberg", where the very difficult role of the defense council for the Nazi war criminals was brilliantly handled.

Another loss to the acting community...
