Safari & Address Bar question

Every time I startup safari or create a new window, safari refuses to let me type in the address bar right away. I always have to move my mouse and click in the address bar in order to write something. Google chrome on the other hand is always ready. How do I fix this in safari?

Safari- preferences- General
New windows open with - Change it to EMPTY PAGE.
New tabs open with - Change that to EMPTY PAGE as well.
