Found old iPod full of music, how to get it off?

I found a very old iPod choke full of music. I would like to copy the music over to itunes 11 on MBP and move some of it to my 4s. Is there a way to move over the music without affecting the music I already have in itunes 11?

Try sharepod it allows u to copy on or off without going thru iTunes

I was able to get the music off the iPod using detune.
What will work to move music off my wife's iPhone 5? Sharepod seems only to be for windows and detune doesn't seem to work with iPhone 5?

Although I was able to remove the music from the old iPod, I haven't had much luck with the iphone 5. Phoneview let me remove the music but it was still locked. Yamipod and Sharepod did not see any music on the iphone 5.

Are there any other programs that work well in removing music from an iphone 5?
