I replaced my DVD drive with an SSD drive and put the DVD drive in the enclosure provided with the data-doubler kit from OWC.

When I plug in the drive and try to play a DVD, DVD Player comes up and it says,

DVD Player Initialization error
a valid DVD drive could not be found [-70012]

I can burn the discs using Handbrake but cannot view them using the drive.

Can't find any help in the DVD drive portion of System Preferences and so was wondering if anyone else had encountered this and found a fix.

I'll go look on the OWC forum also and if I get a solution there or here, I will post it for future reference.

I am running a MacBook Pro, I7 processor, Mountain Lion and the aforementioned SSD's

thanks, OWC tech support had me try this

http://macenstein.com/default/2011/07/how-to-get-your-external-super-drive-working-in-lion/

but the file created by OxEd isn't an exec file just a document  don't understand how replacing my DVDplayback exec file with a document would work...and it didn't, hope I didn't screw up my MBP even worse. I deleted the document and put the original exec file back in the folder.

I'll look at your suggestions now, thank you

o.k. the fix suggested is exactly what I did...didn't work...replaced that file with the exec file of the original and now DVD Player won't even open.....................I think I'm hosed but good now

the file made by OxEd when I replaced the 4 instances of "internal" with "external" wasn't an exec file when saved so that's most likely why it didn't work but I don't know how to save it as an exec file to replace the original which doesn't work now anyway....................

never should have messed with it I guess but being in Afghanistan I kind of need my dvd player to work.....:(

here is the error file details
