Thank you, I wasn't sure since it said 1333MHz speed but I was researching and it seems people have gotten it to work with no problems, and its a decent price!

I ordered 3 pairs of it. the price doubled over night 48 to 96. my ram is coming on thur. i have some 2011 and some 2012 minis I will try it on both mini's

It looks like Amazon sold out and now it's being sold by another retailer. I wonder if Amazon was just trying to unload their stock of this RAM? No idea. Glad I ordered a set!

yeah I want to thank you for posting it. I am going to build a few 2011 base mac minis with 1.25tb fusion and 16gb ram. I am glad I got this price.

Just got the RAM and installed it. The Mini is recognizing it as the full 16gb. Opening multiple apps is much faster. I'm still crippled by my lame Time Warner internet though.

Does the Mini read the ram as running at 1600MHz or 1333MHz?

Unless you've got 1333MHz with a much lower latency than the 1600MHz Apple's using, it will be slower.

But when applications completely use up the RAM on your Mac, the hard drive will be used as RAM - which is about 1/2 as fast as FPM DRAM, or 66MHz SDR if it's an SSD (FPM<EDO<SDR<DDR<DDR2<DDR3). With 16GB, this just happens much later, with the goal being that this doesn't happen at all.

Obviously it will be slower, but how much? 3% 10%? That's really the question. I purchased it because I got it for $48. And my wife has my 2011 Macbook Pro, so if it is a 10% hit I'll purchase 1600 and move the 1333mhz to my Wife's Macbook Pro (not that she really needs it, but what the heck).

And actually, it is lower latency. Generally the 1333mhz "Mac" RAM has a cas latency of 9, where as 1600mhz is 11. So that's what I am going to find out, what is the true "hit"? Does the slight drop in speed, but lower latency equal a minimal hit or does it really make a huge difference?

EDIT: And you really don't need to "explain" to me how a computer works and what happens when you run out of RAM. My point about the "whether the 16GB makes up for it" is that I regularly see Mt. Lion using 2+ GB of RAM add in the fact that 512MB is being used by the GPU means you really only have 1-1.5GB available for applications and what not. If a benchmark is using up more than 1GB then by just adding more RAM in general (whether 8GB or 16GB) would more than make up for the slight loss in memory bandwidth.

It's reading it as 1333Mhz



I have noticed a big difference in how quickly apps open and the usability of multiple tabs in Safari. As I said before, the only thing holding me back now is my ISP.

And that's what I am really expecting. That there is only a slight performance hit (less than 3%) that will never be "felt" in real life use (I've seen #'s like it takes 10% performance gain or better to "feel" the difference). My guess is that I will be more than happy with the 1333mhz RAM...

1333/9=148.11
1600/9=177.77 (Kingston HyperX 1600MHz CL9)

∴ +20.03% (1600MHz CL10 => +8.03%)

*facepalm* Umm no doubt? But what does that really mean in more real world scenarios? How does that affect say Geekbench scores? How about GPU/FPS? You know, more real world stuff? Generally speaking 20% additional memory bandwidth hasn't yielded much more than a few percentage points in more real world benchmarks. Congrats your memory pushes 20% more data than mine, but your handbrake encoding completed only 10 seconds faster than mine. Good job!
