I have brought an audiobook from itunes and it is in the MP4b format,i want to change it to MP3 or WMA to play in my car, when i click on create MP3 version i'm told the format cannot be changed because it is protected,is there any free software out there as i don't warrant buying some for one book or can i still do it in itunes

Some things to try:

Does this help?

Also, you might look into the following apps
QTAmateur
Cog
Vox

They may be able to open the mp4 files and then convert them to either mp3 or .aiff format.

If all you can get is .aiff, drag the .aiff file into iTunes, and then convert it to mp3.

There is also an app out there called "Calibre" (which I don't know much about), but it -might- be able to do such a conversion...
