Paint program
photoshop is extreme overkill for making simply images. Windows comes with mspaint, which is the perfect speed for what i need. any powerpc programs like it? free is preferable.

Another vote for Paintbrush. Never did understand why Apple never shipped with a simple paint program. MS Paint was pretty much 50% of my childhood.

Have you tried the AppleWorks Paint Application? I love it.

I second Appleworks' drawing application. I find it far better than Paintbrush, which I found to be a bit too 'buggy' for my liking (even simple tasks like copying and pasting really doesn't work well at all, colours don't match up etc). If simplicity & reliability is what you're looking for, Appleworks is the way to go.

I think it was free on the OS 9 install disks, wasn't it. One could run classic mode.

I think you can get Apple Works or Claris Works from Macintosh Garden.

AppleWorks wasn't free, unfortunately. However, it was bundled in the restore disks of Macintosh Computers for free, and most restore disks with AppleWorks (Even if it's for an older version of Mac OS X) work with other machines. You can find AppleWorks at a fairly low cost on sites like eBay.

I will have to check out apple ]works. as for paintbrush it does exactly what my son needs it for. he has used ms paint at school so its similarities are a big plus next the the free part.

I just found this searching for another thing. Maybe wants to try it, so I put it here, for future reference (if someone later searches the topic).
