Mail cannot collect to outlook

Hi
I can get mail from my outlook account but cannot send mail from my Mac Mini as I keep getting the "cannot connect to outlook please use correct password" box, which I do, but still no joy.
Correct password in mail preferences and to the mail account.
Help please.

Just to clarify this is an @outlook.com email account?

Which version OS X?

In Mail Preferences, Accounts tab, Account Information screen - what is your Account Type set as? What is your Outgoing Mail Server address, ports & security set to?

(In OS X 10.8 click the dropdown for Outgoing Mail Server and select "Edit SMTP Server List" to see the actual address, then click Advanced to see if it's using SSL and what ports)

Clarification

Yes it is an @outlook.com account

OS X - Mountain Lion

In the outgoing mail server it is Outlook.com (offline), above it in the options is none and below it is "edit smtp server list".

Offline doesn't look like a good thing surely?
