Can you remove iCal & Mail on 10.8.2 without harming the Mac OS?

Hi guys,

Anyone tried removing iCal and or Mail in Mountain Lion (10.8) ???

Were you successful or did it break, and what happened?

Are there core files that are required for the System Preferences / Notifications to work correctly? Because I know it is a new addition to Mac OS X 10.8 called Notifications in the System Preferences.

And a lot of these apps are tied into that annoying Notifications bit, which run constantly in the background using vital system resources, not much, but do make a difference when you are limited on your hardware to a degree...

Hence why I am hesitant to reload an entire Mac used for Video and Audio encoding once I try this and it breaks it to the point of no return... forcing us to reload...

Any light in this matter will be appreciated...
