I don't think a higher profile will make the CPU get hotter. As long as it's at 100% it'll go to its higher temp imo.
You build your own presets? I just hit Apple TV3 and Go.

Yeah. Tbh I don't HB that much. 1 file per month? (If so...) I do usually get the CPU at 100% though while testing out programs we do at work. 8 threads come in handy here. (and my old Mini just had 2... what a difference)
In the tests I posted in the other thread temps didn't go as high with these tests as with HB, so maybe CPU wasn't utilized at 100% but 99 or 98% each, who knows.

I plugged in mi 2010 Mini to see how it run without the bottom cover and put in on the table. Run HB for 20 mins with the cover on first, and noticed temps didn't go over 85ºC, when I can perfectly recall them going like 92ºC when it was where my 2012 Mini is now.
So maybe there's another factor because as I said, where I usually have the mini it's surrounded by wood and two hard drives, which don't seem to do much but might actually do something in the end.

EDIT: Without the cover it held pretty well at 75-80ºC, so around 6-8ºC less. Best part is fan didn't have to spin up over 2000rpm, while with the cover on it needed 3500rpm to keep it at 85ºC.

As for reasons why my machine is coping and others are having issues, not sure. I will say for me some benchmarks are fun to look at but don't necessarily suggest what actually happens in the real world.

you are at 22 c in your room or 71.6 f

my tests were at 78 f all the difference I got to 214 f

take 7 f off I am at 207 f no throttle . or less throttle

Looked at my temps:
Room temp: 23.8ºC (75ºF).
Put the thermometer where the Mini gets the air from and it read 26.1ºC (79ºF). A lot!

I am also at 78-degrees F in my computer room. I did raise the mini on a trivet. The exhaust is going. This is a HandBrake encode, I'll use the same format as Darby67 and show it:

Ok! the reason i wrote that is because i have heard a 2009 mac mini att 100% fan.. i guess the fan in the 2012 isn't as loud.

Anyone in this thread tried gaming and seen the temps after a few hours?

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I have a 2009 Mini and a 2011 Mini Server. The 2011 fan gets much louder than the 2009.

Thats not good news at all then. Do you find the noise annoying?

I like my apps to be easily accessible. I use magnification, so I don't have to squint.

Well, I would never put the 2011 in my home theater setting like I had the 2009. The 2011 sits in a closet, so I don't hear it much.

I've heard that the 2012 mini's fan is a lot quieter than the 2011's. There is a thread on here about it
