I would really like to find a solid iBooks Author tutorial. I would prefer a free version (poor teacher) but I would be happy to find anything that's not going to break the bank.

I had the same problem as you and found this ebook for free and loaded it on my ipad. You can also store it as pdf on your computer. I only just downloaded it and have only read a few page but it does seem pretty good.
The books is titled: Publishing with iBooks Author
