Yes, it's free. But slower on my Mac 3.1, I'm afraid. I use Mac since 1994 and I know that every new Os is heavier (with features I never use...).
There is no way to get the newer driver out of Mavericks?

----------

Into System preferences Panel there is only Cuda, no other control for GPU?

So you've confirmed that Mavericks performs worse on your system for the apps you use? New OSes are the only way to get newer graphics drivers, given how tightly coupled they are with the frameworks on the system. Not sure what else to tell you then, the MacPro3,1 is a very old computer at this point.

^^^^Thanks for the link, Just downloaded and installed PB2, and installed and works fine. I wonder if there is also a Cuda Beta Driver for Yosemite, as Cuda Driver 6.0.54 does not work in Yosemite.

Anyone have issues with the sound after upgrading cards? I installed a GTX760 with the web drivers, which has run fine. It probably isn't related to the card, but I thought I'd check since I starting having no sound about the same time as the card was installed.

The speakers work fine when I'm booted into windows. The built in speaker wont play either, so it isn't a speaker problem. Sometimes a restart will fix it. I'm still trying to nail down a pattern.

Hello
after a format I'm installing Mavericks from the scratch on my Mac 3.1 with Gtx 650 Ti 2 Gb and Radeon HD 2600 XT, so I will check a clean work environment (no upgrade from old system). Installed latest nvidia GPU and CUDA drivers. All seems fine.

At this moment — I need to use Snow Leopard again from other partition — the Dell U2713HM display is connected to the HD 2600 XT.

My question is: to benefit of Gtx 650 Ti power (for Final Cut for example) it must be connected to the display or it anyway works?

nVidia web driver crash Mac Pro

Hello
sorry for another question,

into Mavericks 10.9.4 if I set nvidia driver manager to use Nvidia web driver (334.01.02f02) I get a crash. Resettng the PRAM it restart fine with Osx Default Graphics Driver.

My question is: to benefit of Gtx 650 Ti power (for Final Cut for example) it must be connected to the display or it anyway works?
You don't need a monitor hooked to the 650 Ti.
FCPX uses OpenCL to accelerate some operations. And even the built-in Mavericks Nvidia driver will enable OpenCL for your card, so you should be all set. If you want, you can verify OpenCL support by building the 'dumpcl' CLI tool mentioned in this thread (you'll need Xcode installed):

I recently installed a regular GTX 650 1GB card for a friend, and we had issues with the web driver too. I say stick with the 10.9.4 built-in driver for stability.

It's really hard to know what's going wrong if you don't post the crash logs or kernel panic logs.

Thanks Asgorath
I will try with another similar card. Have you suggestion about brand?

Good for Final Cut Pro X too.

Mac Pro GTX 760

Hello,

I decided to upgrade my graphics card in my Mac Pro 5,1 and bought the Gigabyte Geforce GTX 760.

I've downloaded the drivers for 10.9.4 from the original post as well as Cuda 6.0.54 from Post #1479 and installed them both. Afterwards, I took out my old 5870 and put in the new card, using the power cables the 5870 was previously connected to.

When I turn my Mac on again, the graphic card's fans start spinning but even after waiting a couple minutes my screen stays black. I also tried putting the plug at the back that connects the card to the screen into the other slot which also didn't help.

The answer to my problem is probably pretty simple, but I'm a rookie concerning hardware stuff. If you guys care to help me and need more information, please ask ;).

Thanks

GTX 760 questions

I'm tentatively planning on getting a GTX 760 card for my 4,1 Mac Pro. I've found answers to most my questions in the forum, but I'm still looking for guidance or experience with regards to:

1) I'm looking for a card that is quiet, particularly at idle. Any specific models to look for or avoid?

2) Currently I'm running two monitors at 2560 x 1440. I often work with many windows open, multiple spaces, and virtual machines running Windows and Centos. Typical apps are: Photoshop CS6, Illustrator CS6, 2D and 3D CAD, Excel, Word, Safari, and Mail. Would a card with 4G of VRAM be useful, or is 2G enough? My current card has 1G VRAM and stalls when switching windows or spaces when lots of things are open.

3) Has anyone tried the EVGA cards with Double BIOS such as: 02G-P4-3765-KR, 04G-P4-3767-KR, or 04G-P4-3768-KR?

Thanks,

Yes, GM107 cards work with the Yosemite web driver. Not perfect yet, but it's a good sign that these will work with Yosemite when it is finalized.

EVGA 650ti SSC Works in OS X Yosemite 10.10

just took the old EVGA 650ti SSC 2GB card out of my PC after upgrading to the 750ti and decided to try the 650ti in my 2009 8core Mac Pro. Worked Perfectly. I tried the 750ti and it wouldn't boot properly, it kept chiming then rebooting and chiming again. I've only found this thread about 30 minutes ago and never thought to try a PC card in my Mac before so thank you everyone who's kept this post alive

Update Sept 4, 2014: EVGA GTX 660 SC+ 3GB Card also works

I'm looking for a low end card to stick in my 5,1 Mac Pro. I'm running a Gt120 right now, and i just need a second card so i can drive a third monitor. Most intensive thing that will be running on it is a full screen quicktime video, most of the time it will just have a Webpage on.

I'm really looking for a card that won't require external power. Are their any cards that won't?

Thanks.
