hey, im new to this forum and this is my first thread so im not sure if this is the right place to post.

im using iphone 3gs on ios 4.1 and im trying to update it to ios 5.1.1 with preserved baseband, but im getting error 3194 when restoring and i dont wanna update to ios 6, and I tried to edit hosts file by adding:
74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
Unfortunately Nothing changed :(
so I was wondering if someone could help me to fix the problem and I appreciate your answers.

Thanks :)

You must have saved the hash file for 5.1.1 in order to move to 5.1.1
Without it, your choices are 4.1 or 6.0.1

Firmware on the device is irrelevant.
TinyUmbrella (among other tools) will save the hash files for every firmware version while Apple still signs them.
Apple stopped signing 5.1.1 about a month and a half to 2 months ago.

At the iPhone hacks section.
Download tinyumbrella, go to advanced and click request shsh from cydia and then click save shsh.
It will show what available shsh blobs you have for your device.
If you dont have any then your only option is 4.1 or 6.0.1
