iPad Dumb Question regarding retina wallpapers

If i put a 2048 by 2048 wallpaper onto my iPad4 will it not distort since it's not the natural 2048 by 1536 of the ipad. I was looking at wallpapers from this site: http://2048px.com

I really don't know much on displays so yeah this might be a dumb question. Seems odd that everyone is just posting 2048 by 2048 resolution wallpapers for ipad.

It will not be distorted. They are posted as 2048x2048 so the image retains its look when switching between portrait and landscape.
