Apple TV streaming

So I would really like to stream movies from my mid 2010 macbook pro, as I recall though apple tv does not support that old of a macbook is that correct?

If it does stream (hoping so) what type of quality can I expect? I use the port to hdmi out from time to time, and the screen appears very dark, I really want it to be better than that.

Thanks for your help.

You should be able to stream using iTunes Home Sharing. The quality will be very good depending on your source. As for mirroring, I believe you're out of luck.

As said, iTunes home sharing will work fine and the quality of the movie will be the same as it is on the MacBook itself, providing that the TV is of good quality, also.

Mirroring will not work because a newer processor is needed. In order to do AirPlay mirroring, on-the-fly encoding has to be performed which is very processor intensive, which is why it won't work on older processors.
