Unless you know the person, you have no idea what is in the house. Not all houses have glass break monitors, some basic systems just have motion detectors. I'm not saying your wrong, but I think even on a house without a functional security system, it might act as a deterrent.

I have home security and fire/CO monitoring through AT&T DigitalLife. Seems to work well enough. Thankfully I've never had a break in or anything, so I don't know how well it works in an emergency, but it's good peace of mind.

Debating on getting some kind of self monitoring system. I was looking at a SimpliSafe system or an iSmart Alarm. Can't really decide between the two. I like how the simplisafe has a traditional keypad and you can add on sensors etc later if you want also you can pay to have it monitored later. The iSmart Alarm is cool because I can do everything from my phone.

I already have 3 high-res cameras out back recording to a TB DVR, was just looking for something to monitor my doors for when I'm away for extended periods or when fiancée is home alone.

Any suggestions?

It's definitely a good idea to have a security system installed and monitored! Our Protection1 yard signs seem to be an excellent deterrent as well.
