I have had both, i prefer the screen on the Nexus 7 but build quality is better on the iPad Mini, although I had no issues with the N7 myself.
I did on another note buy a Nexus 10 and sent all 3, yes 3 back with dodgy screens lol but then did get another one with a perfect screen and it was nice to use. I watch alot of movies but was let down by then lack of contrast, which you cannot adjust so sold it.
