New Mac For Music Production - Mini Or Imac ?

hi , the price is the same . (1500$ with ship to my country )
i go to use some toshiba 32 LCD for the mac mini .

Was in the same position as you, and I went for mac mini as spec'ed by yourself, except that I didn't upgrade the HDD. Did a post-purchase HDD swop with 2x 750 Gig 7200rpm, one with OWC data double kit. 2nd HDD for all the samples and virtual instruments.

Got it for about a month and it has been running well. I run both Logic 9 and ProTools 10.3.

Hi,
most important things for music are RAM and storage, if you use or will get to use large sample libraries.
The CPU starts playing an important role only once your project/plugins are seriously big.

With the specs listed i'd go with the mini, SSD will make your system feel enormously faster. Only thing, i'm not familiar with the expansion ports. If it has thunderbolt you have nothing to worry about as the only thing you might need to increase is the storage space, and with the TB interface there are and will be more and more options available.

Aside from this, just like for photography, at 95% it's not a matter of the camera, but the user behind it , so dont worry too much. Unless you are doing really huge projects like hollywood-like scoring you don't need a mega-mac.

You do need a proper sound card and a pair of decent monitors.

I had been using my 2011 Mbp with 8gb, 512gb storage and logic and it coped, but now using my new imac -but if you have a good size monitor for mixing etc and a decent size HDD then it does make a difference.....as said on here though, if you have a good size monitor then go for the mini, if not......
