I have firstname@lastname.biz and it's pretty good, don't pay much for the domain or hosting either.

It's pretty cool when writing your email just to have your first name then your surname

I'm toying with the idea of switching to a for-pay mail provider which has not only tougher privacy stances, but also more reliability as I am using my mail for increasingly more important things.
No. It's not practical to pay for your email service unless you own a company

I use gmail and I have no desire to switch to anything else. I am perfectly comfortable with the security and features.

Why do you say that, its quite inexpensive and provides the person with a very personalized email address. What's not practical?

I have nothing of importance coming into my inbox other than tracking numbers and SPAM. I use Gmail primarily however I also use Outlook as well.

Do you pay an ISP (Internet Service Provider) to get on the internet ? If you do, then you are paying for email (even if you chose not to use the email address that came with your ISP).

I don't see a point in paying for an email other than if you run a company. I use a gmail account and my university email with most important stuff going to the university one.

I don't own a business, so for me it's impractical.
