You can't use Bluetooth like that on the iPhone. It's meant for connecting Bluetooth keyboards, speakers, or headsets for hands-free communication.

Seriously? You can't share files that way?

BlueTooth file transfer is not a feature that is available on the iPhone.

There maybe an app that does that, then it's not very convenient because your buddy also HAS to have the app running.

Sorry, Apple is limited like that. Not gonna justify it. Is just the way it is.

p.s.: Answering the original subject line: Bluetooth is (primarily) for Bluetooth Headset. DUH.

There are many free apps that let you transfer files via Bluetooth, I like UbiDisk the best.

It's definitely possible. UbiDisk is just one way.

That sucks. For example, I'm traveling later this week and won't have Wi-Fi access most of the time. So when I need to send or receive attachments, I was planning to use Bluetooth to get them back and forth between my MBA and Android phone. Now I'm wondering if Apple has a Bluetooth aversion that will prevent my MBA from exchanging files.

That should work fine. But iPhone to iPhone file transfer is more tricky.

Thanks. How about iPhone to MBA? That's something I'd want to know if I ever switched to the iPhone.

The iPhone won't be able to transfer files from the mac either. You may be able to connect but you won't be able to do anything. You would be able to use bluetooth to tether but that is about it on the Mac. You can connect a bluetooth keyboard.

Yes, iOS is limited in Bluetooth file transfer. I wish I could send over any file. Or contacts, etc via Bluetooth. I think my old Nokia could do this? Maybe Apple will introduce something great?

yes we can take it as a drawback or a advantage of our iPhone cause when we share data with others by Bluetooth there is a probability of getting a virus in our device and as an advantage we can say that we just have to on the Bluetooth and can connect our device to keyboards, speakers etc.

I was also thinking the same that Nokia and samsung is much better incase of bluetooth because we can easily customize them accordingly.

Create a wifi network with the Macbook and connect an iPhone to that network. Then use an app like this to copy files between iPhone and Macbook over the wifi:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/docu...374142847?mt=8

Yup, UbiDisk has it's own web server that's accessible to anyone on the same Wifi network. If you make a wifi network with the laptop, you can transfer files directly, without any special apps on the laptop side, and at a much faster rate than Bluetooth.
