Can the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M with 512MB in base 27" 2012 iMac play 1080p YouTube videos smoothly? Will I notice any lagging?
Thanks for helping a totally clueless guy like me!

If any base model Mac can't play 1080 YouTube clips smoothly (depending on internet speed) then there is something seriously wrong.

Games - depends on the game. The 660M will struggle to run modern 3D games at decent settings at native resolutions. The VRAM size for the resolution is all wrong. But if you're willing to play at a lower resolution, and/or set your settings down to mostly medium, and/or limit yourself to older or casual games, you'll be ok for a couple years.

The biggest thing that annoys me is that applied using binned chips in an 1800 dollar machine. The thing should have the full GB of vram in every model and not just the top one. No one else uses binned video cards in machines that cost this much. Heck I have never seen a company that uses binned chips as much as apple. The last mini had that GPU upgrade that had 256mb of vram when the reference design had 1gb. That means that 75% of the ram failed tests and was disabled. That also kills the memory bandwidth and really drops the benchmarks. My friend bought the mini with the GPU upgrade and ended up returning it as it couldn't even run counterstrike source at 60 fps even when you turned the settings down. Its unacceptable to be using rejected chips in premium machines. Apple needs to stop this practice.
