EVGA 480 GTX or 580 GTX not posting using Mac OS X 10.7.2...

Here's my system setup:

- Mac OS X 10.7.2
- EVGA SR-2 mobo
- 2xX5690's CPUs
- XFX 6870 2GB GPU
- 48GB Mushkin 2000MHz RAM
- LEPA G1600 PSU
- Silverstone TJ11 Case

For some reason my 480 and 580 GTX won't work on 10.7.2. As it boots it goes all the way till you see the grey Apple logo with the spinning wheel; then right after - nothing. The screen goes black. At one point before all this mess, the 480 GTX was working just fine, but then stopped posting. So I picked up a Brand New 480 GTX and still it doesn't post. I have a feeling its a driver issue, but I've installed from this nVida driver archive:

I've installed drivers from 4.0.17 all the way up to 5.0.37 (and as of this posting date that one isn't even on the archive list yet). If anyone has any solution to this issue, I would appreciate it greatly. Thank you...

and it didn't work. I followed the exact procedure and still nothing. All I get when trying both GPU's is when it boots it goes to the grey apple logo and the spinning wheel, then... nothing. The screen goes black.

Whatever help (or other web links that anyone can provide that I can look into on my own) as I am only able to use Radeon 6870, would be greatly appreciated... :-)

The only reason why I want to use the 480 and/or 580 GTX is because of Adobe Premiere Pro and increasing the rendering performance. CUDA is the key reason why I want to use these cards and here are just two links (among other links) that show the amazing performance boost using CUDA for Premiere Pro:

This is a forum for people with Mac's not hackintosh machines, you may get an answer but you will have to ne more persistant. I would suggest you go back to Tonymacx86.com and try and get an answer from them, there are people with more experience with Hackintosh's over there then there are here.

Thanks, I realize that, but there are quite a few on here who not only have a hackintosh, but also have the very PC set up that I have and a lot of those members on there have memberships on here too and they tend (at times) to reply quicker on here. That's the reason for me posting on here as well...

CUDA drivers have nothing to do with making the card boot to the desktop. They are for CUDA (i.e. GPGPU) acceleration only. There's a list of graphics driver downloads on the FAQ thread that might help, but as ashman70 said, most people here are using Mac Pros and not Hackintoshes.

Just to follow up with your comment as well as ashman70's, I did a little research on 10.7.2 and though the 480 and 580 doesn't work on my machine I do have another one that IS a Hackintosh. Here are the specs on this machine:

- Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 ver.1 mobo
- 12GB Corsair Dominator 1600MHz RAM
- EVGA 480 GTX GPU
- CoolerMaster 1050 PSU
- Xeon W3680 CPU (same as i7-980X)
- Corsair H100 water cooling unit (for my CPU)
- Silverstone Raven RV02

Now with this unit I just installed a legal purchased copy of Mac OS X ML 10.8.2 and followed the steps needed from here:

and then followed this procedure to get my EVGA 480 GTX working here:

I did everything as I was supposed to. You need to download and install the latest CUDA driver - v5.0.37. Make sure you install that driver as the prior one (that he did on the vid - v4.0.27 will probably not work, as it did not work for me).

As you probably figured out by now, Adobe Premiere and After Effects is now showing GPU acceleration CUDA. So on with the tests to see if things will render better than using the 6870 that I've been using. I will be back with the results in a couple of days...

As you know I have also the SR-2 with the NVidia 480 GTX.
It works perfectly, but then I am on 10.7.3.
I have various 480 GTX driver versions going back to 19.5.8f03.
Did you try this driver?

Do you have a Dual Monitor Setup?

I bought a Nvidia 480 GTX from 'MacVidCards' via his eBay Store; just installed it a couple hours ago, and having problems.

Went to Nvidia, and the Exact Same result. ONLY 1 Monitor, and my Editing Program: Adobe Premiere pro CS 5 continues to Crash, over and Over; everytime I load up and Open my recent project.

Currently using OS X 10.6.8 and Have wanted to wait until I can back up my hard drive (Time Machine) BEFORE I Upgrade to 10.7.5.

Help anyone on this? This is my Workstation at Work, I am not playing games; I'm Video editing creating Health Videos and under a strict timeline with a 'Pile' of More work to get done. Bought this Card to Speed Up my Work flow.

Hello MacVidCard's Yes, I did indeed install the driver, a few hours after posting my last comment and everything has been working just fine... Thank you.
I would have purchased the Faster and Heftier card, though I was concerned about power limitations and was/am not familiar with how easy it can be to provide external power. I have several other power supplies from other PC's available including 450w, 500w, and 850w. In the past I had a schematic that shows how to keep the ATX power supply ON by using a paperclip or wire to connect certain 'Pins' to "Trick" the power supply to remain on.
I would LOVE to have the FULL Power of this GTX 480 and I know that 'MacVidCards' modified the BIOS to reduce the power requirements but I do not know by what percentage or How much more power i could obtain by having external power for my video card, though i am totally willing to do it if it will give me X% increase in performance. if it is only like 5% increase, then maybe not... but if it is a really noticable difference, then I would for sure.

THANK YOU to All that can contribute some helpful Info... i am an Intermediate PC user that Switched to MAC because I got tired of Windows and just simply like the OSX memory management (it seems superior) just haven't had the time to Dig into the information to research it myself.
I chose to buy from 'MacVidCards' because I wanted to support him and the further development of what he's been doing with OSX BIOS.
