I can transfer contacts to my Iphone, BUT can I transfer SMS Text Messages?

I finally figured out how to blue tooth everything from my last phone to my computer. I will now be able to sync contacts, pictures, videos, etc, once I add them to the proper mac software.

BUT, can you transfer SMS Text Messages to the Iphone?

Can you transfer them from the iphone to the computer?

Thanks,

Jailbreak and just copy the /private/var/mobile/Library/SMS/sms.db file.

Simple!

How do I access this file on a MAC? What do you use to open his file?

Copying that file will allow you to back-up and transfer but not necessarily view them all that nicely on your Mac - but http://www.hackthatphone.com/2x/open_ssh.html gives a nice tute about SSH.

Otherwise I'd suggest looking at the PhoneView application for your Mac, which also provides a nice UI for you to view the messages in.

I use a free App called "Copy Contact" which allows you to paste the adress and phone info into anything... SMS, email, text whatever you need to do.

Not to be facetious, but you can obviously transfer SMS to your computer by backing up the iPhone. However, what a lot of people don't know is that you can use iPhone Backup Extractor to open the backup and get to the SMS part of the backup. You can then use SQLite Database Browser to view the SMS's.

Smile iPhone transfer sms

1.Did you jailbreake your iphone before? You can google search by typing"transfer iphone sms to computer",and there are quantities of results and ways to guide iphone sms backup...
2.In iTunes, with the iPhone selected on the left, click the Info tab and make sure SMS and contacts syncing is enabled.
3.Besides what said above, there is a iPhone Transfer Column which includes a same article about how to transfer SMS massages from iPhone to computer, which can help you transfer SMS from iPhone to PC for backup.
hopefully this works for all of you like it just worked for me!

Give these guys a look. http://www.decipher-media.com/iphone-tools/
I was able to save all my text messages to my computer with this program and it only costs $7. I love when simple programs work without any fuss.

Can this file then be copied back to a new iPhone (once it has been jailbroken)??

My wife wants all her old txts on new phone or is this done automatically when one restores from the original old phone to the new one?? DOH!!

Easy text save

Press the home button and the power button at the same time briefly.
That will create a photo/screenshot saved in the photos folder on the iPhone.
Backup photos on your next sync in iTunes.

Et voila.

Did that software work? You were able to import SMS messages from one backup of one iPhone to another new iPhone?

Post Transfer iPhone SMS and Contact onto computer

I guess you could always just forward the messages to an email of yours and then open up your email on your computer.
If you are getting to backup your iPhone sms messages to the computer then there is another option without using the iTunes and you can also go for the iPhone SMS Extractor which is actually a web application which can be used on the MAC operating system. So, I will recommend you to try out this application this might also help you out to get solve out with this problem.

Hope them work for you a lot.

If the phone is jailbroken, you can use iFunBox/DiskAid/iPhoneBrowser to connect to the phone and download the actual sqlite database that holds the SMS messages (SMS.db, if I recall correctly). From there, you can use any of a number of free tools on Windows or Mac to browse the contents of the SQlite database, export to CSV or text, etc.

And if the phone is not jail-broken then MissingSync or this desktop utility will do the work. Mods: Feel free to delete this post, if it's useless. Just found it useful.

The fact that this thread has spanned five years is remarkable in so many ways to me. I just realised that the iPhone is old.

Learn how to replace your current iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with a newly purchased iOS device.

Or you use this 3rd party iPhone SMS Transfer program (win & mac). No Jailbreak required. It lets you transfer messages from iPhone to computer(viewable in conversations). Transferring messages between different iPhones is also supported.
