Knowing what I know about how threads have previously been handled (i.e. closed) when they focus on the same topic that a MacRumors article focuses on but were created before the MR article, I saw this just a moment ago and wondered: is this a "mistake" or a new policy for merging such threads?

I'm not 100% sure, but if an Editor knows of a forum thread already in place then they can add the front page article to it.

If they don't know about a forum thread or a a member creates a new thread after the front page article then our standard priceless is to lock and direct to the front page thread.

We meant to combine the two threads for that news story but didn't get it quite right. We're sorry about the temporary disconnect between the news story and its thread. It's since been fixed.
