I'm not sure how many people are even aware of this, but you can re-arrange your Home screen, and remove tiles (just not the top row) :-
- On the Home screen, hold down SELECT until the icons 'jiggle', then move them round to your hearts content.
- if your Home screen is too cluttered, head to Settings > General > Parental Control, to "Show", or "Hide" whats displayed.
This last one also works for the top (fixed) row too, so its kind of a good balance.
Works on Apple TV 2nd & 3rd Gen.
