is charging using the adapter faster than charging by plugging the ipod into computer usb port? it takes me about 2.5 hours to fully charge from 20% to 100% using usb port.

Charging via computer usb might show full after 2.5 hours but you should leave it for at least 30 more mins for trickle charge.

Charging via adaptor takes approximately the same time because both should provide 5W. Though Ipod touch can draw more than 5W so it would charge quicker with Ipad 10W adaptor.

"computer usb port" is not specific enough.
A standard USB 2.0 port provides 2.5W and that would mean slower charging compared to the 5W of the iPod wall adapter. USB ports on Macs however can deliver the same 5W so charging should not be slower.

So the answer would be "depends" ;)
