2010 2.93 vs 2012 2.66 (12 core)
Hi guys,
I'm thinking about buying either of these two MPs, the 2.93 refurb is about the same price as the new 2.66, though the refurb probably comes with the 5770 while I'd like to buy the other one with the 5870 I'll be using the computer mainly for lightroom and photoshop, and there would be some Final Cut Pro X as well. I can't find geek bench scores of both, but anyway, I'd be interested to know what you guys think of the merits of either machine, or which you'd prefer to have. Cheers |

Get the 2010 with the 5770. If you really decide the video card isn't up to snuff you can add a 68xx series card for way less then Apple charges for it's 5870 aftermarket. 68xx series are only a little slower then the 5870, but waaaaaaaay cheaper, and still better then the 5770.

Hello,
Multiple cores won't help you with photoshop, but it will for fcp. If this is a ps machine, get more clock speed like with the 3.33 hexcore. Loa |

Getting the refurb = good for you.
Just a thought: the quadcore Mac Pro has 8 virtual cores, and the hexcore has 12. Don't know how many LR can handle... Loa |
